“Training & Riding Through The Levels”
with Steffen & Shannon Peters ![]() Photo by Janet Foy The 2nd of NEDA’s annual educational events, this year’s Fall Symposium will offer a learning experience for both riders and trainers, professionals and amateurs. We’ve invited the husband and wife team, Steffen & Shannon Peters, to share their knowledge, experience, and insight about training horses and riders.
This year’s Fall Weekend Symposium will feature horse and rider combinations at every level, Training Level to Grand Prix. Steffen & Shannon will work together to discuss the requirements of each level, how to ride the movements, how to teach the horse the movements, how to choose the appropriate level to compete at, and how to prepare for the next level. Steffen Peters is an accomplished FEI rider and trainer, with three trips to the Olympics, including a team bronze medal in 1996, on his resume. He was born in Germany, moved permanently to the U.S. in 1985, and obtained his American citizenship in 1992. By all accounts, Steffen is a perfectionist, and he requires the same from his students. “Expect more from yourself” is his motto, and he enjoys teaching others that want to excel and are willing to do the hard work required to become a dressage rider. Shannon Peters is the second half of the successful Team Peters. While Steffen spends his time training horses and teaching professionals, Shannon splits her time in the saddle and teaching mostly adult amateurs. She provides students with the basics necessary to developing a solid foundation, including a good seat and independent use of the aids. We believe that Steffen & Shannon together will provide an educational experience for everyone at levels in their in their riding. Steffen may “WOW” us in his work with the riders and horses, while Shannon will explain the “HOW” to get it done. Focus on quality of the horse and quality of the rider will be paramount. Depending on the mix of applicants and invited riders from the USET Developing Rider Series, we may have different horses on different days in an effort to showcase learning riders and learning horses at the lower levels.* And we’ll have half-day, full-day, and multi-day auditor packages available. Demo Rider Application Requirements – Deadline for submission is Friday, August 6, 2010, by postmark. Mail video tapes or DVDs to Jennifer Dillon, 191 Lincoln Street, Franklin, MA, 02038. We’re on the lookout for horse & rider combinations at every level. Professionals, amateurs, young horses, and seasoned veterans. Please submit your written application and video/dvd with a test ridden at a show or at home (please ride the highest test at the level you’re applying for). A proven show record is preferred, but not required. If possible, please include a copy of your test with your video/dvd application. |
